Nicholas Bennett and the others are enthusiastic men of science and clearly enjoy the challenge – the dissenters too – who convince me not that everything is okay in the land of HIV.

Dr Fenton is a killjoy to wish to deny the rest of us the fun of their robust exchange of views. Those who are bored with the business don’t have to watch – that’s the fun of responding and moving on – and there should be room for fun at the BMJ. Let it be.
